It was originally designed by the British Army stationed in the tropics in the 19th century to protect soldiers moving through the jungle, and is also called a Bush Jacket. The four large envelope pockets are designed to make it easy to store small equipment such as maps, ammunition, and compasses, emphasizing its practicality.

Although hunting jackets are said to have originated in England, it was the Americans who popularized them. Many prominent figures were among the early pioneers, such as the famous author Hemingway. In 1933, he wore a hunting jacket while hunting in Africa, which caused a sensation and sparked a wave of American hunting in Africa.
