1. Bal collar coat

  • What is a trench coat?

A "sten-collar coat" is a coat characterized by a high collar at the back and a collar that folds downward toward the front.

Its roots lie in the capes worn to protect from the rain around the 1850s, and compared to other coats it has less decoration and a simpler appearance.

For this reason, it has become popular as an outerwear that can be worn in any situation, whether on or off the job. While raglan sleeves and a fly front are considered classic, casual designs with exposed buttons and flap pockets are becoming more common these days.

Incidentally, the word "sten-collar" is a Japanese-English word, and the most likely explanation is that it is a corrupted version of "stand and fall collar." Another theory is that it comes from the French word "soutien" (to support).

2. Trench coat

  • 4. What is a trench coat?

Double-breasted coat with a belted waist, often made from crisp cotton twill.

It originated from the coats used by the British Army during World War I. It was named "trench" because of its functionality in trench warfare. Each detail, such as the epaulettes (shoulder straps), gun patch (chest cover), and chin flap (collar cover), has meaning, and it still retains remnants of combat uniforms.

3. Quilted jackets/outerwear/coats

  • What is a quilted jacket/outerwear/coat?

A coat made of quilted fabric with padding. It is called various names depending on the design, such as quilted outerwear, quilted jacket, and quilted coat.

Its popularity stems from its light weight and minimal volume. The classic design is a short length with corduroy collar and piping, which goes perfectly with business casual styles. Representative brands include Lavenham, Mackintosh, and Traditional Weatherwear.

4. Down jackets/outerwear/coats

  • What is a down jacket/outerwear/coat?

A down-filled, quilted coat. Its greatest features are its light weight and warmth. It was originally used as cold weather clothing in extremely cold regions and as workwear. Sporty designs were the norm, but nowadays, there are many neater designs that are suitable for everyday wear and business attire.

Authentic and expensive products from brands such as Moncler, Tatras, Duvetica, Herno, Woolrich, and Canada Goose are becoming increasingly popular.

5. Duffle coat

  • What is a duffle coat?

This coat features a front with toggles (wooden buttons with strings attached) and a voluminous hood. It was originally worn by fishermen in Northern Europe, but is said to have become popular after being adopted by the British Navy during World War II.

Duffle coats are a traditional and heavy coat, but because they have a casual image, they are recommended for casual wear.
